Frequently Asked Questions

A: If you have any question about employee performance or whether an administrative response is warranted, you should contact the appropriate person as identified by the functions listed for Employee & Labor Relations Staff. If a union representative contacts you regarding a possible grievance or an employee relations problem, you should contact the Office of Employee & Labor Relations. The Red Flags section also describes other times when Labor Relations can be of assistance.

 

A: The Disciplinary Referral Protocol defines some of the instances that have been traditionally recognized as calling for consultation with and/or intervention by Employee & Labor Relations. These include instances of insubordination, theft, verbal abuse, patient abuse, fighting, and inappropriate sexual or racial or religious conduct.

A: No. The Manual, while on-line, is not a public document and contains copyrighted material. Any computer on campus linked to the Downstate website can access the Manual. It is also available on computers in the Medical Library.

A: Any significant update will be noted with a NEW sign, and that display will continue for one year. The Department of Human Resources also informs employees through campus mail about important events, such as snow emergency preparation, holiday designations and the need to file forms to access certain benefits or to comply with state regulations.

A: Since the on-line version will be available, we intend to have only a few reference copies on hand. The reference copies will reside in the Medical Library and the Office of Labor Relations.
