Our Mission

The goals of the Downstate Employee Assistance Program are to improve the health and well-being of our employee, reduce the impact of personal and job-related problems on employee productivity, offer supervisory and administrative staff workshops and information on assisting employees with problems, to support Downstate policies for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace and, to work closely with the EAP Advisory Committee, and the New York State Employee Assistance Program to serve our employees and maintain good relations with labor and management.

Dr. Magda Alliancin (Al-ee-yon-sin) is the Program Coordinator and Wellness Ambassador for the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at SUNY Downstate Health Science University. At SUNY Downstate, Dr. Alliancin works towards the goals of the EAP, which are to improve the health and well-being of their employees. Throughout her career, Dr. Alliancin has been recognized and awarded for her dedication and service. Most recently, Dr. Alliancin received a citation from the Office of the President, Borough of Brooklyn; acknowledging her dedication to providing in-person support and perseverance during the COVID-19 pandemic where she served as a valuable resource to the SUNY Downstate community.

Prior to SUNY Downstate, Dr. Alliancin served as the Program Director for NYC Health + Hospital Corporation Ryan White Mental Health Program and co-chaired the Consumer Advisory Board; along with over 20 years of professional experience. Her education aligns with her passion for being an advocate for Women’s Health with emphasis on Health Education and Disease Prevention in underrepresented populations.

Dr. Alliancin received her undergraduate and graduate education from Long Island University and completed her second Master’s and Doctoral degrees from Teacher’s College Columbia University in Health Education and Behavior Studies.
