New Beginnings in Our Upgraded Maternity Suites
By Office of the President | Mar 3, 2026

New life deserves a space that reflects care, comfort, and dignity. This week, we proudly celebrated the reopening of our newly renovated Maternity Suites at Nursing Station 32, a significant investment in mothers, babies, and families across Central Brooklyn.
This investment holds particular significance in Central Brooklyn, where improving maternal health outcomes remains a priority. Downstate continues to address disparities in maternal health through comprehensive prenatal care, labor and delivery services, and postpartum support. Our team partners with families to develop personalized birth plans that respect medical needs, cultural values, and individual preferences.
The renovation includes ten upgraded maternity suites, redesigned to enhance privacy, safety, and comfort. Each suite features individual bathrooms with new showers and amenities, modern televisions, and dedicated sleeping accommodations for family members, creating a welcoming environment that supports bonding, recovery, and family presence during one of life’s most important moments.
Congratulations to Mudar Dalloul, M.D., FACOG, Interim Chair of Obstetrics; Patricia A. Winston, DNP, MS, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, Interim CEO of UHD, and Theresa Uva, RN, MS, Director of Nursing for Medical-Surgical and Maternal Child Health Services, along with our outstanding OB/GYN staff, on the reopening of the newly renovated Maternity Suites at NS-32.
We also thank Rev. Kirkpatrick Cohall, Ph.D., Senior Pastor of Lenox Road Baptist Church and Executive Director of the SUNY Council, for joining us in recognizing the importance of this milestone for families in our community.
Special appreciation to our Facilities Management & Development (FM&D) team and the Hospital Facilities team for their expertise and partnership in bringing this renovation to completion. Your work ensures that our clinical teams can deliver care in spaces that reflect safety, dignity, and excellence.
This milestone reflects our commitment to advancing maternal health equity and keeping high-quality care close to home. That is the promise of #KeepCareClose, where we support healthy beginnings for the families of Central Brooklyn with compassion and great care.
Ten New Suites. A Thousand New Stories.
