Dr. Janet Rosenbaum Receives Triple Honors at APHA Annual Meeting

Janet RosenbaumCongratulations to School of Public Health Epidemiology and Biostatistics assistant professor Janet Rosenbaum, Ph.D., who recently won three prestigious honors from the American Public Health Association (APHA). This recognition serves as a testament to Dr. Rosenbaum’s steadfast commitment and substantial contributions to public health.

Dr. Rosenbaum received the inaugural mid-career achievement award for the statistics section at APHA’s Annual Meeting & Expo in Atlanta, GA, recognizing her contributions and innovative work in public health statistics, marking her as a leading figure in the field.

Dr. Rosenbaum and her co-authors, Marco Stillo, MPH, MSE (SUNY Downstate), Roberto Rivera, Ph.D., (University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez), and Nathaniel Graves, MPH (University at Buffalo) also received the Paper of the Year Award in APHA’s Journal of Public Health Policy, for their work ‘Timeliness of provisional United States mortality data releases during the COVID-19 pandemic: Delays associated with electronic death registration system and weekly mortality.’ The paper provided crucial insights into the handling of mortality data during a global health crisis underscored the challenges faced in public health data management during the pandemic and highlighted the need for efficient and timely data processing methods in times of crisis.

In addition to these accolades, Dr. Rosenbaum was appointed to a three-year term on the editorial board of the American Journal of Public Health, APHA’s flagship journal. This role underscores her expertise and thought leadership in public health matters.
