By Office of the President | Oct 11, 2022

Alexandra GreenbergCongratulations to Alexandra Greenberg, one of only ten medical students nationwide—and the only medical student from New York—to receive the Pisacano Leadership Foundation (PLF) Scholarship Award.

A fourth-year student, Alexandra will receive the Pisacano Leadership Foundation scholarship award valued at up to $28,000 for superior academic achievement, identifiable character and integrity, and an extraordinary level of community service.

Alexandra completed her undergraduate degree at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Master’s in Medical Science from Boston University. During that time, she became more involved in community organizing for health justice and advocating for access to essential medicines and healthcare as a human right.

She is an active student leader, serving as the current president of the Medical Council, Chief Operations Officer of the Brooklyn Free Clinic, and a founding member of Downstate’s Health Equity and Social Justice Task Force. Alexandra is also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and the Gold Humanism Honor Societies.

The Pisacano Scholarship Selection Committee comprises the distinguished members of the PLF Board of Directors and Pisacano Scholar alums. Scholarships are funded by the Pisacano Leadership Foundation and offer educational programs, leadership training, and funding for outstanding fourth-year medical students identified as future leaders in Family Medicine.

Since 1993, the Pisacano Leadership Foundation has selected 176 outstanding medical students as Pisacano Scholars. Approximately 3,000 applicants—representing 200 medical schools—competed for these scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to students attending U.S. medical schools who demonstrate a solid commitment to the specialty of Family Medicine.
