Huge kudos to the outstanding UHD/RPCF Health Fair Committee, who orchestrated our first Community Healthy Lifestyle Fair last month. More than 400 community residents joined UHD and members of Downstate’s Residency Program Coordinators Forum (PRCF) where–despite a few clouds and raindrops–families had a day of educational activities, play, lots of photos, and a short video of the day’s events.

Participants received information on healthy lifestyle medicine–including presentations by Distinguished Professor, Immediate Past Chair and Program Director of Otolarynology Richard Rosenfeld, M.D., MPH–took part in breast and prostate cancer screenings, learned about access to community resources, and joined yoga classes and cooking demonstrations. Mafuzur Rahman, M.D., FACP, Chief Medical Information Officer, also led discussions on COVID Long Haul Syndrome.

Children played games, received backpacks and school supplies, enjoyed a DJ, and took advantage of a 360-photo booth. Additionally, everyone received healthful and nutritious lunches and snacks. Some lucky individuals won raffle prizes, including a 55-inch television and bicycles.

Charles Brunicardi, M.D., FACS, College of Medicine dean, Teresa Y. Smith, M.D., MSEd, Graduate Medical Education and Affiliations associate dean and Downstate DIO, Kino Williams, MS, PHR, senior staff associate, and Juliet Arthur, MHA, C-TAGME, residency administrator, delivered welcome remarks.

Patricia A. Winston, DNP, MS, Senior Vice President for Hospital Operations, and Alishia Goodridge, MLS, MBA, Assistant Vice President for Government Relations, welcomed the family of beloved UHD pulmonologist James Mahoney, M.D., and Mail Room staff representing the family of supply assistant, Mr. Dellon Angel. The Mahoney and Angel families each accepted a posthumous Award for Service Excellence.
