Biostatistical Support
The Office of the SVPR provides biostatistical support to Downstate faculty, based on the research project and methodology. Our office strongly recommends consulting with a biostatistician as early as possible, preferably at the conception stage of the project, and not after data collection.
- Biostatistical Consultation at Downstate
Dr. Olumide Arigbede, our new Research Data Analyst along with Dr. Jeremy Weedon will be available for biostatistical consultations. To request a consult, please complete the intake form. This will help us streamline requests and ensure that all queries are routed via appropriate channels and addressed in a timely manner.
-
- All Downstate faculty, postdocs, fellows and residents can request consultation using the intake form. Medical and graduate students should work with their faculty mentor to request a consult.
- Requests should be made well in advance, with sufficient time before deadlines to develop or analyze research projects.
- Drs Arigbede and Weedon can be included on grant applications as co-investigators.
Note that participation as co-investigator will accepted on a case-by-case basis.
- Biostatistical Consultation through Data Management and Analysis Center (DMAC) at
UAlbany; up to 3 hours per project*
DMAC can assist with issues regarding data collection, preparation (importing, merging, and cleaning data), analysis (implementing statistical tests), and results (understanding the formatting of the output). Please note that requests can be made by faculty overseeing the study only. Trainees (residents, fellows, students) cannot request support independently. Support can be requested for:
- Research project planning: study design and tools
- Research data processing / cleaning
- Selection and interpretation of statistical methods
- Research data visualization
- Survey design and research needs such as practicalities of digital survey design (survey logics, survey flow, distributions, capturing and using embedded data, etc.)
* If additional hours are needed, please submit a written request, with strong justification for the extra hours. We will consider such requests on a case-by- case basis.
- Extended support in the form of Research Partnerships
Support over the lifecycle of a research project as a research partnership may be requested either with DMAC or Dr. Weedon. DMAC can be listed as either sub-awardees or consultants in a grant application. As noted above, it is feasible for Dr. Weedon to be listed as a co-investigator. In such cases, data science specialists from DMAC or Dr. Weedon will work as members of the research team assisting with:- Data entry Data manipulation, organization and cleaning
- Basic statistical analysis and analysis of survey data
- Model estimation and post-estimation
- Creating graphs and data visualization of raw data and model output
- Complex statistical analysis and modeling
- Writing reproducible syntax/command files
- Producing reports with detailed interpretation
- Writing methods and results sections of papers
- Responding to peer-reviews of our analyses
- Providing comprehensive, long-term follow-up
As part of such a research partnership, DMAC staff or Dr. Weedon would likely receive author / developer credit on all resulting research / software output (e.g., publications, talks, posters, documents, software packages).
If choosing DMAC, the ability for DMAC/SRC to partner on longer-term projects is based on staff availability, project scope and funding. Needs, availability, and costs of this service are discussed on a project-by- project basis.
