2025 Competition
Following the success of previous years, our office hosted the 3rd Annual Fall Research
Symposium on October 16th. The day was engaging and inspiring for the entire Downstate
community, with strong participation from faculty, trainees, and students across all
schools.
The morning session featured seven research presentations from prior Seed Grant awardees,
who shared updates on their ongoing projects and discussed the future impact of their
work. Each presentation was followed by thoughtful questions and lively discussion
from the audience.
In the afternoon, we transitioned to the 3rd Annual Trainee Research Slam, where 15
trainees presented their research in concise, three-minute talks. We were pleased
to welcome a few new judges this year — Dr. Joanne Constantin (School of Public Health)
and Dr. Yu-San Huoh (School of Graduate Studies) — while Dean Allen Lewis (School
of Health Professions) and Dr. Elka Jacobson-Dickman (College of Medicine) rejoined
our judging panel once again.
The caliber of presentations continues to rise each year, and this year’s participants
impressed both judges and audience alike with their creativity, clarity, and scientific
rigor. After a challenging deliberation, 3rd place and the People’s Choice Award were
awarded to Riley Morrone (School of Graduate Studies), 2nd place went to Joseph Fajobi
(School of Graduate Studies), and 1st place was awarded to Sabah Islam (College of
Medicine).
Congratulations to our winners and to all trainees who presented at this year’s symposium!
