Research or Clinical Interest Summary

My research interests include hematopoietic neoplasms including myelodysplastic syndrome and biology of cancer in different ethnic populations.

Grants:

Principal Investigator at Downstate: R Gupta, M.D.
Department of Defense - W81XWH-20-PCRP-HDRA
07/01/2021 – 06/30/2023
Novel complex structural variants and epigenetic alterations link the genomes of prostate cancer in African Americans with outcome disparity.  The goal of this project is to identify and interrogate the underlying genetic differences that contribute to worse outcomes in men of African descent with prostate cancer. The project will identify novel complex structural variants and epigenetic changes in prostate cancer that contribute to disease progression in African American men, and correlate with outcomes disparities

Research Support:

Principal Investigator: R Gupta, MD
miR Diagnostics
09/10/2018- 09/09/2019
Development of new screening tests for diagnosing urological cancer through ‘liquid biopsies’, especially focusing on the African American patients, who have not been adequately represented in other test development studies

Co-Investigator: R. Gupta, M.D.
NIH - P20
10/01/2015-09/30/2019
Feasibility studies to build collaborative partnerships in cancer research to study racial/ethnic differences in GI cancer biology.

Principal Investigator at Downstate: R Gupta, M.D.
NIH Health Disparities Seed Funding Program
2019 - 2020
Racial Disparities in TNBC: Role of Clusters of Enhancers and associated lncRNAs
In a joint Albany and Downstate effort we are studying super-enhancers and long noncoding RNAs that drive aberrant activation of oncogenic pathways in African American women. The knowledge of these genetic risk factors will enhance our understanding of the biology of breast cancer in African American women and help identify genes that could be used to develop targeted therapies.
