Background and Expertise:

Sara Abu-Ghanem MD MMedSc is an otolaryngologist (ENT) with expertise in Laryngology: voice, airway, and swallowing disorders. She received her residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and completed two years of clinical fellowship in Laryngology and Bronchoesophagology at Stanford University School of Medicine (California, USA) and New York University School of Medicine (New York, USA). Dr Abu-Ghanem is a faculty member in the Department of Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center  (MMC) and is also an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at SUNY Downstate. Dr Abu-Ghanem is academically active and is continually trained in the latest medical, surgical and behavioral techniques for diagnosing and treating voice, airway, and swallowing disorders. She works closely with the Division of Speech-Language Pathology at Maimonides Health and serves as co-director of the MMC swallowing center. She has been selected for NY Super Doctors Rising Stars since 2021.

Dr Abu-Ghanem serves as clinical research director. On a national level, Dr. Abu-Ghanem contributes to several professional societies including American Laryngological Association (Postgraduate committee member), American Society of Geriatric Otolaryngology (Executive Council Member), and American Broncho-Esophagological Association (Pharyngoesophageal Committee). She is also the current chair of the Airway and Swallowing Committee for American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
