Department of Neurology

Dr. Sergio Angulo is a specialist in Neurology with a subspecialty in Neurocritical Care. He began his education at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, graduating in 2006, where he developed a strong interest in neurosciences. He continued his education and earned a PhD in Neuroscience from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, where he studied from 2009 to 2017. His PhD research focused on Alzheimer's disease and found drastic changes in intracellular calcium homeostasis in a subset of hippocampal neurons. Additionally, Dr. Angulo completed a postdoctoral fellowship under the guidance of Dr. Lytton at SUNY Downstate from 2017 to 2018 in the field of computational neuroscience, where he worked to elucidate the connectivity of neuronal networks in the prefrontal cortex.

Following this, Dr. Angulo completed his clinical residency in Adult Neurology at SUNY Downstate from 2018 to 2022, serving as chief resident during his final year. He then moved to Rochester, NY, to continue his clinical training, completing his Neurocritical Care Fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center from 2022 to 2024.
