Mariaverna Sevilla

Residency Program Coordinator
Department of Family and Community Medicine

Mariaverna Sevilla is the Family and Community Medicine Residency Coordinator.  Although she joined the program in 2015, her lengthy career in Family Medicine started in 2000 at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center where she oversaw 30 residents. At Downstate, she is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the residency program, and ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). She is responsible for resident recruitment, the resident evaluation process, creation and distribution of preceptors’ and residents’ clinic schedules, coordination of resident functions, as well as many other things. Maria is also in charge of the Department’s travel, and serves as the travel coordinator.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family outdoors. Typically, this is on a hiking trail Upstate, or on a beautiful, sunny beach in Aruba.
