Dr. Adrian Aurrecoechea, MD, MPH joined our faculty after completing his Emergency Medicine residency at SUNY Downstate/Kings County. He currently serves as the Director of Innovation and Health Equity in the Department of Emergency Medicine at University Hospital at Downstate and is also faculty at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County. Combining his expertise in global health and social emergency medicine, Dr. Aurrecoechea focuses on integrating social determinants of health into emergency care, improving patient outcomes, and advancing equity-driven innovations.
As the Director of the Social Emergency Medicine Division, Dr. Aurrecoechea leads efforts to address health disparities, develop residency curricula, and foster community partnerships to better serve vulnerable populations. His global health work includes a collaboration between the U.S. Department of State, Senegalese political leaders, and the Senegalese NGO REVOCAP to strengthen public health volunteerism and community engagement in Senegal. Additionally, Dr. Aurrecoechea has worked with Partners in Health in Chiapas, Mexico, contributing to disaster response strategies and long-term program development for underserved populations. He has published on topics including social emergency medicine, disaster response, and health equity and is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of emergency medicine leaders.
