Dr. Gayatri Malhotra-Gupta earned her medical degree at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Manhattan, NY and completed her internal medicine residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. During residency she did research on COPD in mouse models under the direction of Dr. Patrick Geraghty (PhD, Associate Program Director of Research and Academic Development, Department of Internal Medicine). She subsequently completed her Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship training at Yale New Haven Medical Center where she worked in the lab of Dr. Charles Dela Cruz (MD, PhD, Director, Center of Pulmonary Infection Research and Treatment) studying immune responses of influenza infection in COPD.

Dr. Gupta is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease and joined SUNY Downstate Medical Center faculty in 2023 as a Critical Care attending. Her current research is focused on emphysema in HIV patients under the guidance of Dr. Robert Foronjy (Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Division Chief and Program Director).
