Dr. Mary Mallappallil, MD, FASN, FACP is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and the Chief of Service for Nephrology at Kings County Hospital. Her areas of expertise are chronic kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, and dialysis. Dr. Mallappallil completed her undergraduate studies in New York city and got her medical degree from the State University of New York at Downstate in 1997. She did her residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai - Beth Israel and completed her nephrology fellowship in 2002 at Downstate. Subsequently she was faculty at North Shore hospital (now Northwell) in nephrology after which she returned to Downstate and became the training fellowship program director till 2019 when she accepted the position of medical director at the Kings county hospital dialysis center and chief of nephrology position.
She has a busy nephrology practice takes care of a wide range of kidney diseases. She has been nominated by her peers as the "Top Doctor" in Nephrology in the New York area.
She is active in the selection of future doctors, internists and nephrologists through the interviewing process and serves on several committees to that effect. Dr. Mallappallil is active in student, resident and fellowship education and molding the future generations of nephrologists. She is the continuing medical education director for the nephrology division which keeps practicing nephrologists up to date with information in the Brooklyn area. She has several books and has well published in nephrology.
