Michael Reinhardt, MD

Dr. Reinhardt received his B.S. in Biochemistry at the University of Rochester, before going on to study medicine at St. George’s University of Medicine. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University from 2009-2013, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. He completed fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University where he now serves as Clinical Assistant Dean, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program, Co-Director of the Brooklyn Initiative to Develop Geriatrics Education, and the Associate Director of the Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease. These final two positions were earned as part of multimillion-dollar awards from the Health Resources & Services Administration’s Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program and the New York State Department of Health Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease Program respectively. Dr. Reinhardt also was honored to receive a Geriatric Career Advancement Award from the Health Resources and Services Administration this fall.

His career is dedicated to leadership, advancement, and clinical care in the fields of geriatrics and geriatric psychiatry. He has won awards as an educator (Educator of the Year for the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship program), and contributed actively to the geriatric psychiatry literature, publishing three book chapters, four peer-reviewed articles, and multiple posters on topics related to geriatric mental health. He recently pioneered SUNY DMC’s first telehealth program serving homebound older adults with dementia. He is board-certified in both psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry.

A 4-year mentored career advancement award from HRSA. This award is designed to develop the career of Dr. Reinhardt as an interprofessional educator in geriatrics. As part of this program, Dr. Reinhardt will be developing a novel curriculum for interprofessional trainees on the healthcare applications of Artificial Intelligence / Machine learning and “Big Data”.
