Inter-professional Education in PT in the United States

Dr. Yasser Salem, PT, PhD, MS, NCS, PCS, FAPTA recently published a peer-reviewed article as the lead author examining interprofessional
education (IPE) in Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs across the United States.
This publication is part of an ongoing series of scholarly works focused on interprofessional
education and collaborative practice in healthcare professions education.
Dr. Salem collaborates with a team of experts from institutions across the country, including colleagues from Georgia, Massachusetts, New York, and Texas. Together, they are advancing the understanding of interprofessional education and its role in preparing healthcare professionals for collaborative practice.
In addition, Dr. Salem and his colleagues have had a presentation accepted for the Education Leadership Conference, which will be held in October 2026 in Washington, DC. The session will highlight current status of Interprofessional faculty development in United States.
The research team is currently engaged in a national project examining the integration of interprofessional education within healthcare professions accreditation standards in the United States. This study aims to evaluate how accreditation requirements across various healthcare disciplines address interprofessional education and collaborative practice competencies, with the goal of informing future interprofessional education initiatives.
