Division Highlights

The Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University treats the full spectrum of vascular disorders using all forms of modern open vascular and minimally invasive endovascular procedures. We offer personalized, evidence-based management options based on patient risk profile and preferences.

Our faculty treats carotid artery occlusive disease using either open endarterectomy or stenting. In addition, we provide a comprehensive limb salvage service for patients with severe peripheral arterial occlusive disease who are at risk of extremity loss, using open bypass or minimally invasive endovascular approaches. Furthermore, we offer sophisticated management for patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms that we treat using minimally invasive, percutaneous techniques. As part of our aortic aneurysm program we treat patients with suprarenal or juxtarenal aortic aneurysms using custom-made, fenestrated endografts and state-of-the-art, high resolution imaging equipment.

Our Division has an outpatient vein clinic, which provides comprehensive evaluation and specialized treatment for vein disorders. In addition, a very active dialysis service provides state of the art care for initiation and maintenance of hemodialysis access. A fully ICAVL-accredited vascular lab offers preoperative diagnostic and postoperative surveillance imaging for a wide range of disorders, including carotid, venous, peripheral arterial, and visceral vascular disease.

Through clinical, basic and outcomes research, our faculty are working to advance the field of vascular surgery and improve outcomes for patients. We are also proud of our comprehensive training program, which allow us to train surgery residents and medical students in a collegial, patient-centric environment.
