Fellowship Program Overview
As an academic tertiary referral center, we offer complete services for evaluating gastrointestinal disorders including motility and GERD disorders in our Motility Center of Excellence and in our newly opened Pancreaticobiliary Center of Excellence. We also have well-established services in Advanced Imaging, Gastrointestinal Oncology, and Liver Diseases.
The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship at SUNY Downstate is one of the largest and oldest training programs in the United States.
About the Program
The Fellowships is a 3-year program, with:
- 16 Months of General Gastroenterology
- 9 Months of Endoscopy
- 6 Months of Hepatology
- 1-2 Months of Elective
- 2-4 Months of Basic or Clinical Research
Fellows rotate through several large and prestigious teaching institutions in Brooklyn as well as smaller Community Hospitals in Queens, including:
- University Hospital at Downstate
- Kings County Hospital Center
- VA NY Harbor Healthcare System - Brooklyn Campus
- St John's Episcopal Hospital
- Mount Sinai Hospital
Each rotation offers a unique experience with respect to patient population and spectrum of disease.
The core training sites, which include University Hospital of Brooklyn and Kings County, have an expanded Endoscopy service offering training in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopy.
