OB/GYN Residency Program Ranks Among Top 25 Percent

Downstate’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program ranks among the top 25 percent in Doximity’s 2026–2027 Residency Navigator.

More than 20,000 U.S. physicians participated in Doximity’s nomination survey, identifying programs they believe provide strong clinical training. Residency Navigator combines those nominations with feedback from residents and recent alumni, as well as information about research, publications, clinical trials, board certification, and graduate career paths.

Doximity is a verified professional network used by more than 80 percent of U.S. physicians. The organization reports that approximately 90 percent of graduating fourth-year medical students use Residency Navigator when considering training programs, giving the rankings considerable visibility within academic medicine.

Downstate’s OB/GYN Residency Program has trained physicians since 1953 and offers six residency positions each year. Its Doximity profile includes 215 ratings and 45 reviews, placing the program in the 72nd percentile for alumni publications and the 63rd percentile for alumni participation in clinical trials.

The ranking reflects the program’s academic reputation and strength in training future obstetrician-gynecologists. Residents work alongside faculty across general obstetrics and gynecology, high-risk pregnancy, maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive health, and gynecologic surgery. Although the designation does not directly measure patient outcomes, it recognizes a learning environment built around clinical experience, research, and continuous improvement.

The recognition comes as Madur Dalloul, M.D., FACOG begins his service as Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. His experience in clinical operations, graduate medical education, research, and quality improvement will support the department’s continued focus on resident education, maternal health, patient safety, and access to care.
