Public Health Trailblazer Honored at Latin Impact Awards

Congratulations to Marlene Camacho-Rivera, Sc.D., M.S., MPH, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the School of Public Health, for her recent
recognition at the Latin Impact Awards annual gala hosted by Schneps Media. This event
celebrates the extraordinary achievements of Latin American leaders from various sectors,
including politics, healthcare, business, and education. The vibrant atmosphere, filled
with cultural pride and community spirit, highlighted the rich and diverse heritage
of Latin Americans in New York.
As a social epidemiologist, Dr. Camacho-Rivera’s research focuses on uncovering the structural and social determinants of chronic disease disparities in urban racial and ethnic minority communities. She actively translates her research into practice by designing, implementing, and evaluating community-driven interventions aimed at preventing chronic diseases and improving self-management, especially in Latino communities.
Dr. Camacho-Rivera is also dedicated to diversifying and strengthening the public health workforce through education and training programs. Her impactful work is supported by esteemed institutions such as the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Health Resources and Services Administration.
This recognition honors Dr. Camacho-Rivera's significant contributions to chronic disease research and her commitment to creating community-centered interventions that advance health equity within Latino populations.
With a solid academic foundation—including a BS in Biology and Society from Cornell University, an MPH in Health Policy and Management from Tufts University, and a doctoral degree in Social Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health—Dr. Camacho-Rivera has dedicated her career to improving health outcomes for underserved communities.
The gala also provided honorees opportunities to network with fellow community leaders, encouraging collaboration and strengthening their shared mission of uplifting and supporting communities.
