Campus Hydration Stations Make Waves for Users

By Office of the President | Apr 2, 2024

Hydration StationAs Earth Day approaches, I want to share an update on the positive impact SUNY Downstate is making to the improvement of our environment and the lessening of our carbon footprint. One initiative that deserves recognition is our Hydration Station Initiative. With 26 stations already installed in key areas throughout the campus and affiliate locations, we are making significant strides in promoting sustainability and reducing plastic waste.

Each year, these stations provide an impressive 18,000 gallons of fresh filtered water, eliminating the need for over 115,000 plastic bottles. This effort saves roughly about $230K in expenses related to bottled water, and also prevents roughly 7,200 pounds of plastic from being deposited in landfills.

The Hydration Station Initiative is just one example of Downstate’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. Let us continue to support this effort and work towards a greener, healthier planet for everyone.
