Patrick Geraghty, PhD

Pulmonary

Patrick Geraghty received a bachelor of science degree in 2000, and Ph.D. in Microbiology from the National University of Ireland-Maynooth in 2004. He completed post-doctoral training at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland-Dublin and an NIH-funded research fellowship at Columbia University in New York. Dr. Geraghty joined the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital/Mount Sinai West in 2011 as Research Associate. He has been on the faculty at SUNY Downstate since 2015 as Research Assistant Professor. His research activities focus on pulmonary immunology with specific interests in microbial infections in diseased lungs. He has explored the role of phosphatases, pathogen recognition receptors, proteases and phospholipid transporter protein in the regulation of lung disease progression. His work focuses on pulmonary diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and pneumonia. He has over 30 peer reviewed research publications and has research funding from the Alpha-1 Foundation and the Flight Attending's Medical Research Institution.
