Thulasiram Janardhanan, MD, MPH

Dr. Thulasiram Janardhanan completed his residency training in Psychiatry, fellowships in Administrative Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. He also has a master’s in public health from the School of Public Health at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. He has Board Certifications in Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Geriatric Psychiatry.

He served as a Chief Resident during his final year of residency training. He was a Unit Chief/Assistant Director of Inpatient Psychiatry at Kings County Hospital Center. Later he was Unit Chief, Director of Geriatric Psychiatry unit and Program Director for Psychiatry Clerkship at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, and Associate Director of geriatric Psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University.

He is currently the Co- Director and Visiting Associate Professor, for the division of Geriatric Psychiatry, Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University.

His previous teaching positions include Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY Downstate Health Science Center, Clinical Assistant Professor at St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada and Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, New York. He was a former Adjunct Professor for Clinical Medicine at the American University of Antigua College of Medicine.

Dr. Janardhanan holds memberships in several professional societies, including the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, and served as the President of Brooklyn Psychiatric Society from 2014-2017.

Dr. Janardhanan has participated in research at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in patients with Schizophrenia and Dementia. He has numerous poster presentations and has published papers about Oral health among older adults with Schizophrenia.

He has received numerous awards like the Best Teacher Award for PGY I Residents from the Department of Psychiatry, SUNY-Health Science Center; Distinguished Educator Award by the Department of Psychiatry from SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Faculty of the year Award by the Undergraduate Medical Education, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center and the prestigious Nancy C.A. Roeske Award, a Certificate of Excellence in Medical Student Education from the American Psychiatric Association.
