Steven Friedman, Ph.D., ABPP is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences in Brooklyn. He has published over 70 peer reviewed papers and 15 book chapters. In addition, he has edited two volumes on Anxiety Disorders (Cultural Issues in the Treatment of Anxiety, The Guilford Press,1997 and Anxiety Disorders in African Americans, Springer Publishing Company, 1994).

His work has focused on the clinical manifestation and treatment of Anxiety Disorders across cultures. He has published a number of widely cited clinical outcome studies indicating the utility of CBT approaches across a variety of ethnic groups in the inner-city area.  At Downstate Medical Center in the Department of Psychiatry he has been teaching and supervising psychology interns, medical students and psychiatry residents psychotherapy from a CBT frame for over 30 years. He has been voted teacher of the year by the psychiatry residents seven times.
