Christina Guillén, MD, FAAP

Interim Chair of Pediatrics
Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Dr. Christina Guillén serves as the Interim Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics. As a leader in medical education and a board-certified pediatrician, she previously held the roles of Pediatrics Residency Director and GME Associate Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. With over twenty years of experience in academic medicine, Dr. Guillén has a strong commitment to community advocacy, graduate medical education, and child health equity.

Dr. Guillén completed her medical education at SUNY Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine. She went on to complete her residency training in Pediatrics at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. She is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University School of Public Health.

Dr. Guillén’s commitment to advocacy and community health has been widely recognized through numerous honors, including the Dr. Dale Blackstock Award for Mentoring and Community Service, the Diversity in Medicine Mentorship Award, and multiple awards for Outstanding Performance in Graduate Medical Education. She is a graduate of the Harvard Macy Institute Program for Educators in Health Professions. Most recently, she was selected as a 2023 SUNY Hispanic Leadership Institute Fellow, highlighting her growing influence as a leader in academic medicine.

Dr. Guillén's passion for promoting health equity has led to collaborations with local organizations in Brooklyn, focusing on initiatives such as food insecurity, parent education programs, and public health outreach events. As a dedicated educator, she incorporates community engagement into medical training to foster cultural awareness and prepare future physicians to meet the diverse needs of families and children.
