Mahmoud I. Awad, MD

Mahmoud I. Awad, MD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. Additionally, he serves as the Chief of ENT at NYC Health and Hospitals/Kings County. 

He completed his Otolaryngology residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia and Cornell Universities, where he was awarded the Distinguished Housestaff Award during his chief year. Dr. Awad then went on to complete fellowships in Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as Facial Plastic Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. As such, he is a highly skilled surgeon specializing in head and neck surgical oncology, endocrine surgery, transoral robotic surgery, and microvascular reconstruction.

Following fellowship, he went on to work in Binghamton, New York, where he held rank as Volunteer Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at SUNY Upstate - Binghamton Clinical Campus. Working upstate in the private sector for a few years helped Dr. Awad come to the realization that a much more rewarding career can be attained at Downstate, where he looks forward to delivering high quality surgical cancer care to an underserved population while also providing academic and clinical mentorship to the next generation of otolaryngologists.
