Dr. Huma Ahmed received her medical degree from King Edward Medical University in Pakistan and completed her internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. She went on to complete her fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

Dr. Ahmed joined the SUNY Downstate faculty in 2024 as a Critical Care attending. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine. Presently, she is dedicated to excelling in academics and is passionate about the training and mentorship of residents and fellows.

Research

During her fellowship, Dr. Ahmed worked in the laboratory of Dr. Patrick Geraghty, where she studied protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) in models of pulmonary diseases including COPD, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, and pulmonary fibrosis. She presented her work at regional and national conferences and received an award for outstanding research at the conclusion of her fellowship.
