Adam Budzikowski, MD, PhD, FHRS
Director Electrophysiology
Associate Professor
Division of Cardiovascular Medicine
Dr. Adam S. Budzikowski is an internationally recognized expert in cardiac electrophysiology with over three decades of experience spanning clinical practice, research, and education. He currently serves as Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Service and Program Director of the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, where he is an Associate Professor of Medicine.
Dr. Budzikowski received his medical degree from the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland, followed by a Doctorate in Human Physiology, where his research on vasopressin's role in hypertension earned him summa cum laude distinction. His postdoctoral fellowship in neurogenic hypertension at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute deepened his understanding of the central nervous system’s regulation of cardiovascular function. Following his residency and fellowships in internal medicine, cardiology, and cardiac electrophysiology at SUNY Stony Brook and the University of Rochester, he has held multiple leadership roles in cardiovascular medicine.
A Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society (FHRS), Dr. Budzikowski has made significant contributions to the field, particularly in atrial fibrillation ablation and the prevention of sudden cardiac death. He is widely published, with over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, 33 book chapters, and numerous abstracts. He has also served as a principal investigator for NIH- and industry-funded clinical trials, including the RAID and EMANATE trials, focusing on arrhythmia management and anticoagulation strategies.
Dr. Budzikowski’s clinical expertise includes advanced catheter ablation techniques, device-based therapies for heart rhythm disorders, and the integration of artificial intelligence in arrhythmia diagnosis and treatment. His teaching experience spans mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, and he has co-authored several comprehensive electrophysiology manuals. As a passionate educator, he has directed cardiovascular courses and supervised graduate theses, advancing the knowledge of electrophysiology trainees worldwide.
Dr. Budzikowski’s academic contributions have earned him prestigious awards, including the Minister of Health’s Scientific Awards in Poland and recognition by the Inter-American Society of Hypertension. He is a sought-after speaker at international conferences, sharing his expertise on atrial fibrillation, sudden cardiac death prevention, and cutting-edge electrophysiology techniques.
Dr. Budzikowski’s commitment to advancing cardiovascular care, research, and education solidifies his position as a leader in his field, dedicated to improving patient outcomes and training the next generation of cardiologists and electrophysiologists.
