Dr. Damali M. Wilson is a social scientist and researcher with an extensive background in research and programming focused on maternal, child, and adolescent health and well-being. Her work centers the intersection of physical and mental health, community-based approaches, and service to marginalized and systematically disenfranchised populations. In her previous role as a Project Director, she oversaw a research portfolio of National Institute of Health (NIH) funded studies on maternal mental health and parenting among child-welfare involved mothers, and youth mental health and suicide risk reduction. Prior to that, Dr. Wilson led a prenatal-to-three capacity building initiative which sought to improve maternal child health equity through program expansion, data and evaluation, local policy, and family and community leadership.
Dr. Wilson served as the Inaugural Maternal & Reproductive Health Fellow (2025- 2026) for a joint fellowship between the NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research and the NYU Langone Health’s Institute for Excellence in Health Equity (IEHE), advancing actionable insights, influencing policy changes, and applying research to promote equitable health outcomes in maternal health. Dr. Wilson is currently a 2026 Fellow of the Clinical Research Scholars Training (CREST) Phase 2 Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. The CREST program is supported by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities of the National Institutes of Health. Her project commences formative research on intimate partner violence in the perinatal period.
In addition to her scholarship, Dr. Wilson is a PNCB-certified pediatric nurse practitioner with over a decade of clinical experience.
