Dr. Sherwood is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Certified Wound and Ostomy Specialist, with ANCC Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is an Associate Professor of Nursing at SUNY Downstate, College of Nursing and currently practices as a Wound and Ostomy Specialist.
Dr. Sherwood holds certifications in Wound and Ostomy. She lectures in both the academic as well as inpatient settings. She has spoken at several conferences around the world and many have benefitted from her lectures on self-care for nurses, nurse empowerment, wounds, ostomies, and critical care. She also provides lectures to medical and surgical staff regarding wounds and ostomies.
For more than 25 years, Dr. Sherwood has devoted her career to providing care that focuses on meeting the patient where they are at and progressing from there. Her intent is to see the unseen and listen to the unheard by embracing those that are marginalized. She does that at the bedside, through education on campus and in the classroom and through mentorship of both current and graduated students. Her passion centers on the nursing workforce, with particular emphasis on empowerment, resilience, burnout and moral distress while cultivating compassion in the workplace.
Dr. Sherwood’s professional experiences consist of over 25 years in academic, undergraduate and graduate, as well as various specialties in Nursing.
