SUNY Downstate Medical Center

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency Program

Research

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is continuously involved in research. In conjunction with our Human Performance Laboratory (gait lab), we are currently conducting studies on assistive technology, muscular dystrophy, low back pain, HIV associated neuropathy, exercise adherence, diabetes, and gait analysis, to name a few.

During the 3 years of residency, each resident is required to complete a minimum of 1 poster presentation to be submitted to national conferences. Additionally, residents are encouraged to submit case reports and original research articles for publication in specialty-related journals. Expenses are covered for residents that have a publication accepted for presentation at a national conference.
