Upcoming Cancer Health Disparities Symposium

In light of the of Downstate’s recent partnership announcement with Maimonides Health to expand access to cancer care in Central Brooklyn, I am pleased to share that the 8th Annual Cancer Health Disparities Symposium will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM in the Alumni Auditorium at SUNY Downstate, entrance at 395 Lenox Road in Brooklyn.

The symposium is free and open to physicians, scientists, nurses, trainees, students, and community members and is sponsored by SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University - Department of Medicine/Division of Gastroenterology, the Brooklyn Health Disparities Center, and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, under the direction of Moro O. Salifu, MD, MPH, MBA, MACP, Professor and Chair, Department of Medicine, Edwin C. and Anne K. Weiskopf Endowed Chair in Nephrology, Director/PI, Brooklyn Health Disparities Center.

John D. Carpten, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of Translational Genomics, Director of the Institute for Translational Genomics, and Royce and Mary Trotter Chair in Cancer Research at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, will present the keynote address.

Session I will address Colorectal Cancer, Session II includes talks on Pancreatic Cancer, and Session III will cover talks on Breast Cancer in the United States and Africa. There also will be an update from the New York Genome Center regarding the Polyethnic-1000 Initiative.
