On February 22nd, the Downstate community gathered for a special event: our Black History Month Hero
Celebration that took place in the Cafeteria. It was not just a celebration but a
confirmation of the pivotal roles and contributions of our Black community, both within
Downstate, across the U.S., and around the world. The event featured live music and
delicious bites for all who attended.
Central to this celebration was the recognition of one of Downstate's very own heroes,
Adeola O. Dabiri, MSc, MPA, CPHQ. Adeola's accomplishments are extensive and noteworthy.
Adeola has led over 200 TJC surveys (closer to 300 but she is too humble to say) and
8 official full surveys here at Downstate. She has over 30 years of experience in
healthcare leadership, with nearly 22 of those years dedicated to leading regulatory
efforts at Downstate.
Ms. Dabiri is a healthcare visionary and strategist, with a multifaceted skill set.
Her expertise encompasses an extensive range of areas, including hospital operations,
regulatory and accreditation surveys, quality assurance performance improvement, compliance,
patient safety, patient satisfaction, project management, and so much more.
Below are a few heartfelt comments from colleagues about Adeola and her remarkable
contributions to Downstate:
“Adeola Dabiri is Downstate! When I think of Downstate Health’s vision ‘To be the
best place to get care and the best place to give care’ I can definitively say, it
wouldn’t be possible without her dedication to ensuring we meet the highest standards
as the great healthcare facility we are. She expects the best, and has a wonderful
ability to drive us to be the best. She is definitely my hero!”
“Adeola is a gifted mentor, woman, and leader. Adeola is so diligent with her work
here at the hospital and cares about the patients as much as she does about the staff.
I can always lean on Adeola for any quality and regulatory questions and needs. She
has been a mentor to me since the day I started and I am so thankful for what Ms.
Dabiri does for our whole hospital and community.”
“One of my favorite aspects of her is her mannerisms, as she respects everyone no
matter their status.”
