A Day of Fun in the Sun to Support Alzheimer’s

This past September 18, many of you joined us at Cadman Plaza Park for the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association/New York City Chapter.

It was a beautiful late summer day that was spent with family, friends, and colleagues. We met new people from all areas of our community, got some exercise, and helped raise funds for an important cause. This year, I am proud to announce that we reached our goal and raised over $30,000. Every dollar that was donated will help the Alzheimer's Association and provide care and support to those facing Alzheimer's and other dementias, as well as fund critical research.  

Here at Downstate, our Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease is doing an amazing job in fighting Alzheimer’s by providing an integrated, one-stop-shop of care for patients and caregivers.

Coming Together With Our Community at the Health Fair

On Sunday, September 25, our community came together for a day of fun and education at the Community Healthy Lifestyle Fair. The event took place in front of the hospital and offered tons of activities for the whole family. The Fair offered information on healthy lifestyle medicine, numerous health screenings, community resources, children’s games, giveaways, and so much more.

September Employee of the Month – Dirk Joseph

Our very own Dirk Joseph is an EKG Technician in the Emergency Department (ED) who provides an exceptional level of performance. Mr. Joseph has made important and significant contributions to the ED. He demonstrates commitment to our mission and values as we continue on our WE CARE journey.

Mr. Joseph is a role model for his willingness to work positively, respectfully, and effectively with the doctors and nurses in the department. He has embraced being a preceptor for newly hired techs and nursing assistants and successfully manages changes in work priorities and procedures for the continued progress of the organization.

Dirk’s ability to foster collaboration, communication, and cooperation among colleagues and members of the ED team makes him a great candidate for this honored recognition. Thank you, Mr. Joseph, and congratulations on all that you have accomplished here at Downstate.
