The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offers a complete range of women’s health care services through its Obstetrics, Gynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Gynecologic Oncology divisions, as well as its Ultrasonographic and Colposcopic services.
MATERNAL FETAL MEDICINE DIVISION
The Maternal Fetal Medicine Division and the Obstetrics service provide a wide array of perinatal services for pregnant women. These services range from prenatal care for the healthy mother to the most sophisticated care for the complicated pregnancy. The latter services are provided by Board Certified and Board Eligible Perinatologists. The genetic counselors, geneticists, ultrasonographers and perinatal nurse clinicians assist the Perinatologists in rendering full service care to obstetrical patients on the Obstetrics Service. These specialists also perform CVS, amniocenteses, percutaneous umbilical cord sampling, Level II Ultrasound and Doppler Flow studies. Perinatal consultations are also available.
In addition to providing ambulatory care services for the management of high-risk pregnancies at University Hospital of Brooklyn, the division also coordinates perinatal outreach efforts to improve the overall quality of perinatal care in the borough.
The prenatal services are available to all women seeking complete and integrated care from the preconception period until six weeks after the delivery. An emphasis is also placed on education and prevention. The Ultrasonographic Unit within the Obstetrics service performs transvaginal sonograms, complete fetal surveys and invasive procedures. The invasive procedures include amniocenteses and percutaneous umbilical blood sampling procedures. This service interfaces with other health professionals to cover all aspects of care for the pregnant patient. The additional health professionals include nutritionists, perinatal nurse clinicians, genetic counselors, social workers, psychologists and ethicists.
The Gynecology Division provides a full range of gynecological services to its patients on an ambulatory and inpatient basis. The Ambulatory Care Services are devoted to addressing the needs and demands of its patients. The Gynecology Division provides routine and preventative care services to its patients. The Gynecology Service provides a full range of gynecological surgical procedures for the proper management of its patients with benign gynecologic disorders. The Division also utilizes the traditional and the well established surgical techniques in the management of its patients.
Yi-Chun Lee, MD
The Division of Gynecologic Oncology provides a complete range of diagnostic and therapeutic expertise for all aspects of cancers of the female reproductive system. The Gynecologic Oncology Division’s modality of treatment and surgical procedures include radical surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapeutic treatment in conjunction with the Department of Radiation Oncology. The division also provides evaluation and treatment for preinvasive cervical, vaginal and vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia.
The Oncology Division is a full member of the Gynecologic Oncology Group and actively participating in 30-35 NCI-sponsored phase II and III cooperative group clinical trials. Gynecologic Oncology has an active robotic minimally invasive surgery program, that was established in February 2009.
REPRODUCTIVE ENDOCRINOLOGY AND INFERTILITY

The Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility offers comprehensive medical and surgical treatment females and males with infertility problems. The services include microsurgical tubal reconstruction, endoscopic procedures (laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and related procedures), and other surgical methods, which include assisted reproductive technology and contemporary specialty care to women to alleviate risks and discomfort associated with endocrine disorders, menopause and premature menopause, menstrual problems caused by hormone imbalance, hyperprolactinemia, polycystic ovary syndrome, hirsutism (excessive hair in females), delayed puberty and other reproductive problems. The division also provides treatment to endometriosis patients through the Center for Treatment and Study of Endometriosis.
