SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University

Robert F. Furchgott Society

The Robert F. Furchgott Medical Student Research Award

To qualify for this award, applicants must be current fourth year Downstate medical students who have conducted basic or clinical research while enrolled as a medical student at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. MD PhD students are eligible to apply, but may only submit applications reflecting the research performed while as a medical student and not as part of their thesis project. The award recipient will be selected on the basis of the scientific merit of their research, the student's contribution to and understanding of the project, and the quality of the presentation as determined by the reviewing members of the Robert F. Furchgott Medical Student Award Committee. Abstracts, presentations and publications by the student will strengthen their application, however, publications by Downstate medical students that fail to acknowledge their Downstate affiliation will not be considered with the same level of enthusiasm.

Nominations require:

  1. A completed application. For an application form, click here
  2. A letter from the research advisor describing the applicant's role in designing, executing, and interpreting the results of the project.
  3. An abstract describing the research project (no more than 250 words)
  4. The applicant's curriculum vitae

Selected applicants will present a 15-minute oral presentation to members of the Robert F. Furchgott Review Committee in March 2019.

The application package must be electronically submitted as a single PDF file to RFFS@downstate.edu by Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 5 PM.
