Background and Expertise:
Gwyneth M. Eliasson received her Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School, and her MPH in Health Systems and Policy from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) School of Public Health (now Rutgers School of Public Health). At convocation, she was awarded the Stanley S. Bergen, Jr., MD, Medal of Excellence and inducted into the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health. She is a licensed attorney, a member of the New York Bar, and admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
After law school, she was a Legal Services and public interest attorney advocating for low-income, immigrant, and older residents of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Harlem, and other New York City neighborhoods. Her expertise is health law, specializing in government benefits, and she represented clients in administrative hearings and appeals as well as federal court cases. After her MPH program, she was the first public health policy analyst with the Center for Public Health Law Research at Temple University Beasley School of Law, and she was a consulting attorney for Rutgers School of Law, completing projects to develop a medical-legal partnership in Camden.
She is a guest lecturer at Rutgers School of Public Health, and she has been an adjunct
professor of public health at The College of New Jersey and La Salle University. She
is a member of the Policy Committee in the Law Section of the American Public Health
Association (APHA). She also is a member of the Health Law Section of the American
Bar Association (ABA), serving on the Health Reform Task Force and the Medical Legal
Partnerships Work Group.
