Geriatric Fellowship Program

The fellowship program is a one-year clinical program for PGY 5 residents. It is certified by the ACGME. There are a variety of clinical rotations including experiences in acute inpatient psychiatry at Kingsbrook Hospital and Island Medical Center, intermediate-care at Kingsboro Psychiatric Center, a long-term care(nursing home) at St. Albans Extended Care Facility, outpatient treatment at Downstate Geriatric Psychiatry Clinic, Memory Disorders at the Center of Excellence for Alzheimer's Disease (CEAD) at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, provider education as part of Project ECHO and the Brooklyn Initiative to Develop Geriatrics Education, home visits from CEAD, and community education at senior centers, churches, and community centers. Opportunities for research are also available. Since its inception in 1984, over 60 fellows have graduated from the program.
