SUNY Downstate Department of Orthopaedic Surgery proudly provides the most comprehensive care of the upper limb in Brooklyn. Steven Koehler, MD, FAAOS, Charles Ekstein, MD and William Aibinder, MD specialize in the treatment of all disorders of the upper extremity in adults and children.  Dr. Koehler is the Director of Hand and Microsurgery and has particular interests in congenital disorders, peripheral nerve surgery, the brachial plexus and upper limb reconstruction and reanimation.  He uniquely specializes in free tissue transfer - one of the only hand surgeons in the Tri-State area to do so. Dr. Koehler is one of the few surgeons in the world with the ability to tackle some of the most complex and challenging problems for the face, hand, and upper limb. Dr. Ekstein provides complete orthopaedic care of the upper limb, including the wrist, elbow and shoulder.  In particular, he has an interest in fracture care and trauma. Dr. Aibinder is the Director of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery, and his practice focuses on elbow and shoulder pathology with a passion for complex primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty, shoulder and elbow reconstruction, including tendon transfers.  Together, the most complicated and challenging problems of the upper limb are effectively and successfully treated.
