Latest Installment of the 2021 President’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigator Seminar (PREMIS) Series to Feature a Conversation With Dr. Allen Lewis
Brooklyn N.Y. (May 5, 2021) - The SUNY Downstate President’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigator Seminar (PREMIS) Series
will feature a conversation on "Cultural Bias, Race, and the Black Experience in the
United States" with Dr. Allen Lewis, Dean and Professor of the School of Health Professions
at SUNY Downstate and author of We Are All Racists: The Truth About Cultural Bias. Dr. Lewis will join panelists Dr. Carla Boutin-Foster, Associate Dean of Diversity
– Downstate College of Medicine, and Tracey Wilson, PhD, Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs
and Research - Downstate School of Public Health, to discuss themes from his book
about the anatomy of cultural bias, why race as a type of cultural bias is still so
pervasive in the U.S., and his observations about the black community as one example
of how racial cultural bias has damaged this group and what can be done now to promote
