BROOKLYN, NY— SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University College of Medicine dean F. Charles Brunicardi, M.D., announced the appointment of Bonnie Granat, Ph.D. as the Senior Associate Dean for Assessment and Quality Improvement in the College
"I am pleased to appoint Dr. Granat to this critical position as we seek to expand our reach as an academic resource at SUNY Downstate," said Dean Brunicardi. Dr. Granat will support the expansion of the College of Medicine's educational programs and will develop the continuous quality improvement processes that will enable the College to establish its short- and long-term programmatic goals. This work will result in the achievement of measurable outcomes used to improve educational program quality and ensure effective monitoring of the medical education program's compliance with accreditation standards—an essential component to the College's LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) re-accreditation process.
"I am honored by this appointment and feel privileged to be in an institution that places such a high value on the quality of the educational experience for our students," said Dr. Granat. With 16 years of experience in higher education administration, including many presentations and published articles on medical education, Dr. Granat will design and implement curriculum assessment programs, and monitor student progress. For the past six years, she has served the SUNY Downstate campus with a superb commitment to continuous quality improvement and organizational success—including the creation of a program where student teams evaluate their instructors and learning experiences.
Dr. Granat earned her Ph.D. in Education and Literary Studies, and her M.S. in Elementary Education, both from Hofstra University. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Medical Science Educators, and also serves as an evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Dr. Granat holds a New York State Certification in Education and Reading and is certified in online teaching and data analytics.
