Girl with Pink Balloon FingerpaintingBROOKLYN, NY— On January 12, 2019, SUNY Downstate Medical Center helped children and families celebrate Summer in the Winter in partnership with The Fresh Air Fund. Hundreds of children and families gathered at the medical center to register for free Fresh Air Fund experiences and enjoyed a summer themed carnival with face painting, prizes, and games.

“We’re excited to collaborate with The Fresh Air Fund to give children an opportunity to enjoy free, healthy, and safe summer experiences,” said Keydron Guinn, PhD, Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff at The State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. “Thanks to our Health Care Innovation and Transformation Office and our Pediatric Department partners Dr. Meseret Tena and Gail Solomon, we will be able to ensure that the children of our community remain healthy.”

Each year, thousands of New York City children from low-income communities enjoy Fresh Air Fund programs through visits with volunteer host families along the East Coast, Southern Canada and at The Fund’s five overnight camps in Fishkill, New York. The Fund has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City Children since 1877.

“We are honored to join forces with the prestigious SUNY Downstate Medical Center,” said Fatima Shama, Fresh Air Fund Executive Director. “Our partnership is an extraordinary way to work together and support our mutual commitment to serving New York City’s children and families. We are truly grateful to SUNY Downstate and look forward to new initiatives on the horizon.”
