SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University
Office of Graduate Medical Education
If you have been recommended for July 1st appointment to the SUNY-Downstate Medical Center Affiliated Hospitals Residency Programs as a house staff physician, you must attend a two-day hospital orientation for both SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and Kings County Hospital Medical Center, the two major affiliates.
All of our affiliated hospitals will provide you with an opportunity to be engaged in a training program that represents a cross-section of varied patient case mix and outstanding medical and teaching facilities. While you are being appointed into the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University Affiliated Hospitals Residency Programs, you will benefit from experiencing clinical services of our affiliated hospitals, although your salary sources will depend upon which hospital you are assigned to at the start of your training.
See the New Innovations checklists for instructions on the appointment procedures that include information on mandatory credentials review that includes presentation of required original documents, completion of all forms, and completion of training modules of compliance coursework. Without completion of these all these steps and health clearance, you will neither be processed for payroll nor may you be scheduled to work.
Because of the ongoing Covid Pandemic, it is yet to be determined if the 2021 orientation will be virtual or in person. In either case, you should reserve the following dates as you must attend at the indicated days and times.
|Monday, June 14, 2021||8 am – 6 pm||GME Mandatory Orientation||TBD|
|Tuesday, June 15, 2021||8 am – 6 pm||GME Mandatory Orientation||TBD|
In the event circumstances arise which prevent you from accepting our offer, please advise us immediately by contacting Natalie Arrindell, in the GME/House Staff Affairs Office at (718) 270-4220.
Congratulations on your appointment. We look forward to having you in our programs.
