SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University
THE DOWNSTATE HEALTH SCIENCES UNIVERSITY FINANCE DIVISION
We are pleased to announce some personnel and reporting changes within
Downstate’s Finance Department.
As of July 1, 2019, the Accounts Payable, Bursars, Banking, Card Services, and Payroll Departments will officially report to Bernadette Selby, who was appointed to Senior Associate Vice President of Finance/ Deputy Chief Financial Officer in July 2018. Ms. Selby will report to Interim Chief Financial Officer Richard Miller, PhD. Previously, these departments reported to Craig Campbell, Associate Vice President/Controller in the Finance Department. Mr. Campbell’s responsibilities as campus Controller continue and he will focus more of his efforts on improving the accounting on related organizations.
With more than 25 years of healthcare and finance experience, Ms. Selby’s expertise has been proven to drive financial stability, improve collections and enhance customer satisfaction within healthcare and financial systems.
Ms. Selby has been with SUNY Downstate since 2015, when she assumed the role of Assistant Vice President of Revenue Cycle—managing the daily operations of Patient Financial Services, Admitting, Health Information Management (CDI, Coding, ROI, etc), Charge Description Master, and Revenue Cycle Training Departments.
Prior to arriving at Downstate, Ms. Selby served as Assistant Vice President of Revenue Cycle at The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) for 16 years, where she increased physician billing collection from $4M to $10M within her first year. Working closely with Local 1199 and the Federal Waiver program to train and professionally develop billing staff members into coders, as well as working with the Senior Partner of the Advisory Board, she also spearheaded training programs in customer service, billing, collections, managed care, and insurance verification.
Ms. Selby holds several board appointments, and currently serves as the sitting Treasurer for the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University Foundation, as well as a member of the SUNY Compliance & Audit Oversight Committee. She is also a member of the Greater New York Hospital Association’s Revenue Cycle and Managed Care Committee; Healthcare Association of New York State; National Association of College and University Business Officers, and the Healthcare Financial & Management Association where she presents at the organization’s Annual Institute.
