Nkiruka (Kiki) Nwokoye, JD, is the Administrator and a Clinical Assistant Professor of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Since she joined Downstate in 2012, she has worked in different capacities on the majority of Downstate’s primary care transformation projects including patient centered medical home recognition, integration of behavioral health and primary care, and implementation of value-based and quality incentive programs. Kiki was also a Senior Project Manager of the Downstate-led Brooklyn Healthcare Improvement Project (BHIP) which brought together local hospitals, government, insurance plans and community organizations to assess and make recommendations regarding avoidable ED/ hospital use and chronic conditions hotspots in Northern and Central Brooklyn. Kiki is a long time resident of Flatbush Brooklyn, and has a passion for collaborating with community organizations. For the past few years, in conjunction with local non-profit organization CAMBA, she has organized the Phenomenal Girls' Symposium at SUNY Downstate, which provides empowerment workshops for girls aged 12-18 from our local community. Kiki also works in collaboration with Downstate OB/GYN and other Downstate divisions and local community groups to promote maternal and child health initiatives. She has co-taught classes in the Family Medicine clerkship program on how providers can address social determinants of health. She is a graduate of Columbia College and Yale Law School, and worked in corporate law and consulting prior to coming to Downstate.
