Office of Academic Affairs

Faculty Development

The Office of Faculty Affairs & Professional Development was created in July 2014 to support the faculty of Downstate in their mission of training future generations of physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, scientists, and public health practitioners.

The office is responsible for Downstate's faculty development programs including the seminar series, interest groups, and formal mentoring programs. The Faculty Affairs Office is committed to a Campus culture that nurtures successful careers and work-life integration.

Planning and coordinating academic personnel matters in consultation with the Campus Deans and spearheading the faculty, chair, and academic leadership recruitment and selection processes are additional responsibilities of his Office. In June 2016 Middle States Commission on Higher Education accreditation survey of Downstate Medical Center, the Commission cited the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development as "a model program for other institutions."
