Crystal Marquez, MD
Department of Family and Community Medicine
Dr. Crystal Marquez joined the Department of Family and Community Medicine as a Core Faculty Member in October 2019. She provides inpatient, outpatient, prenatal care while providing teaching and mentorship to both family medicine residents and Downstate medical students. She has built a home-based primary care system for her patients that are bed-bound or unable to leave their home. Dr. Marquez has skills in procedural care in Women's Health, Dermatology and Musculoskeletal disease. In the residency’s weekly procedure clinic, she can perform Nexplanon insertions, joint injections, and skin biopsies. Dr. Marquez is fluent in Spanish and can explain medical conditions and treatments to her patients.
Her interests include creating medical curriculum teaching about Social Determinants of Health especially Food Insecurity, Implicit Bias, Cultural humility and Nutrition. Other interests include procedural care and Point of Care Ultrasound.
At Downstate she is part of the Clinical Competency Committee and is working to improve the Wellness curriculum for residents.
Dr. Marquez graduated from Middlesex Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in 2019. During her time in residency she participated in our Global Health track and provided medical care in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Rwanda. She was a popular teacher during residency and received the AFMRD Scholarship Award, recognizing her prodigious output of scholarly projects. She earned her medical degree from Ross School of Medicine in 2015.
