Luba Nakhutina, PhD
Dr.Nakhutina earned her Ph.D. in Psychology at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York, Neuropsychology Subprogram. She completed her internship in neuropsychology at Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard University in Boston and post-doctoral fellowship training at the NYU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. She joined SUNY Downstatefaculty as an Assistant Professor in 2009. She is board certified in Clinical Neuropsychology.
Dr.Nakhutina directs the Neuropsychology Service in the Department of Neurology, specializing in neuropsychological assessment of patients with cognitive problems associated with neurological, psychiatric, and medical illness. Her main clinical and research interests include cognitive and behavioral functioning in epilepsy, memory disorders, interventions targeting cognitive problems, as well as bilingualism and cultural factors as these impact neuropsychological assessment. Dr. Nakhutina has published book chapters, peer-reviewed articles and presented her research at international conferences. She directs the training program for psychology graduate students and lectures to medical residents and fellows. She is a member of the International Neuropsychological Society, American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology and is also on the board of directors of the New York Neuropsychology Group. She is fluent in Russian and has expertise in neuropsychological assessment of Russian-speaking patients.
