Mission Statement & History

Our SUNY Downstate Surgery Laboratory’s priority is to provide general surgery residents, Ph.D. students, and medical students with high-quality basic science training, which includes the foundation of knowledge for applied science by studying genetically modified animal models and human samples.

The surgery lab has a long history of dedication to helping residents, medical students, and graduate students advance their academic careers. Over the decades, many of the previous lab graduates have had successful achievements in the surgical field as surgeon-scientists and leaders.
